Praising, Worshiping God the Focus of First Baptist’s Music Ministry

Whether it is through the voices of children singing, the ringing of handbells, the worshipful sounds each Sunday of one of the handful of choirs, or the joyful praise from smaller ensembles, First Baptist Church in Richmond has something for nearly anyone interested in worshiping Jesus Christ through music.

Through various styles and forms of vocal and instrumental music, the church’s music ministry, under the leadership of Mickey Ballard, Minister of Music, reaches across all ages and musical abilities. “The music ministry of First Baptist Church has a long-standing tradition of music education and participation among its members,” said Mickey. “We are always seeking children, youth and adults who want to praise God by singing, playing a musical instrument or directing. There’s always room for more in First Baptist’s music ensembles!”

Joining Mickey is a music staff considered by many to be among one of the best within the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The music staff at First Baptist Church holds degrees from institutions of higher learning around the Southeast United States and has many years of experience in church music and music education. In addition to the minister of music, the staff includes Sue Ellen Ballard, who serves as church organist and Cassie Baldwin who serves as the Music Assistant.

Persons interested in participating in the music ministry are encouraged to contact Mickey by calling 623-4028 ext. 217 or by emailing him at mickey.ballard@firstbaptistnet.com.

“People who join our ensembles often tell me it was one of the best ways they became involved at First Baptist because they were able to meet others in the church and use their gifts at the same time,” said Ballard. “Joining the music ministry is, indeed, a wonderful way to meet others who enjoy singing or playing an instrument. But even more than that, it is an incredible way of thanking and praising God for the many blessings he sends our way each day.”
